HMS Cell Phone Policy

At Haynes Middle School all cell phones, headphones, and other electronic devices, except for assigned student laptops, must be turned off prior to entering the building. Devices should be powered off and placed in the student’s Yondr pouch and then placed in their clear backpack. Students are free to use their phones prior to entering the building at 8:40 a.m. and after they are dismissed at 3:55 p.m. each school day.

Parents, if you need to contact your child, we ask that you call the main office at 615-262-6688. We are more than happy to relay your message to your child.

Students found in violation of the above policy will be asked to forfeit their device. The device will be labeled, placed in a baggie, and locked away until a parent comes to retrieve the device from the front office. The student will receive an office referral for violating Code 203 in the MNPS Student Handbook; Electronic Devices: Improper Use of Cell Phone, Internet, or Electronic Devices. Any student who refuses to forfeit their device will receive further disciplinary action. Disciplinary actions can include a mandatory parent conference, ISS, and/or OSS.

Students will not be allowed to call home regarding confiscated devices, and the earliest a cell phone can be picked up by a parent is after dismissal.

Cell phone use at school is often the source of distractions, bullying, threats, fights, and theft. Cell phone usage and social media sites are often used by scholars as a platform to participate in these activities. Please encourage your child(ren) to not engage in these negative habits and monitor their access to these sites.

Ultimately, our goal is to decrease distractions and increase student learning. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated.

Haynes Middle School Standard School Attire

Haynes Middle School will maintain a professional learning environment. Standard School Attire (SSA) is an important part of learning valuable employability skills. Standard School Attire also allows us to maintain a focus on teaching and learning throughout the school year. Haynes Middle School reserves the right to modify this policy at any time during the school year.

Tops

• Required: Any solid color, must have a collar
• Permitted: May have long or short sleeves, HMS spirit wear
• Not Permitted: T-shirts, any low-cut midriff-revealing or crop tops, sleeveless shirts, racerback shirts, see-through material of any kind

Bottoms

• Required: Solid black, navy, gray, or khaki color; belts are required for pants with belt loops
• Permitted: Pants, shorts (knee length), capris, skirts (knee length), skorts, or jumpers
• Not Permitted: Short shorts or skirts (must be fingertip length), leggings, biker shorts, denim jeans, jogging pants, sweatpants or athletic gear, sagging below the waist, holes, rips, stressed or tears, see-through material of any kind

Outerwear

• Permitted: Single blazer, suit jacket, sweater, light fleece, or cardigan in a solid color over SSA, HMS spirit wear
• Not Permitted inside of the classroom; Can only be worn outside: Denim jackets, heavy coats, hats, hoodies, bonnets, blankets
  Shoes
• Permitted: Tennis shoes, dress shoes, sandals
• Not Permitted: Slides or flip flops, house slippers/shoes, Crocs
